The municipality of Sta. Cruz is in the process of finalizing its Local Economic Enterprise strategic plan which is expected to boost the existing local enterprises of the municipality. In a two-day workshop conducted on July 30-31, 2014 at the Waterfront Insular Hotel, all unit pesonnels of the local economic enterprise offices had presented their respective operation plans.
Mayor Joel Ray Lopez said that the operation of economic enterprises is crucial to the overall economic development of Sta. Cruz as this will eventually generates more local revenue to the municipality. “While we recognize that local government is basically to provide services to the people, there is also a need for us to craft a mechanism to allow the LGU to gain local income and one way to make it workable is to enhance the operation of local economic enterprises.”
Part of the workshop output was the presentation and discussion of the proposed rental fees of the economic enterprise units, as well as the draft of the proposed Local Economic Code of Sta. Cruz.
Sta. Cruz is presently operating seven economic enterprises namely: Public Market, Public Transport Terminal, Municipal Slaughterhouse, Municipal Cemetery, Municipal Training Center, Municipal Waterworks and Operation of Heavy Equipment.
