Sta. Cruz fisher folks receive fishing boats from BFAR XI

A total of one hundred ten fishing boats have been received by selected marginal fisher folks of Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on August 24, 2015 as part of the assistance provided by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources XI. This is part of BFAR’s effort to continuously give support to resident fishers in Davao region who depend largely on fishing as their main source of livelihood within the Davao Gulf area.

The 110 fishing boats were turned over to recipient beneficiaries in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur through Mayor Joel Ray Lopez and Provincial Fishery Officer Carlito Aclao representing BFAR Regional Director Fatma Idris.

Mayor Lopez was gratified to have been part of the assistance provided and reminded the fisher folks present to always observe the appropriate ways of fishing.

“We have always been thankful to the assistance given to us by BFAR. This will be a very loudable program to our fisher folks. I just would like to encourage all our fisher folks here to be responsible especially in observing the close-season for fishing and to use appropriate fishing methods.”
