The Office of Municipal Agriculturist here has turned over on June 6, 2016 several farm implements and agricultural inputs to some farmer-beneficiaries in the municipality as part of its continuing agricultural productivity measures. It was given by the Department of Agriculture XI, Provincial Agriculture Office of Davao del Sur and the Municipal Government of Sta. Cruz.
According to Municipal Agriculturist Roberto Florentino, the assistance came it at the right time because rainy season is already experienced in Sta. Cruz. “We expect these assistance to further boost agricultural productivity especially to the farmers who were affected by the El Niño phenomenon.”
The assistance includes 20 sacks of Open Pollinated Variety of white corn seeds and 10 sacks of hybrid yellow corn seeds to be distributed to identified corn farmers in the municipality. Assorted vegetable seeds are also out for distribution such as ampalaya, squash, cucumber, tomato, patola, upo, okra, raddish, peanut and ginger.
Meanwhile, farmers from sitios Kibarangan and Langan in Barangay Coronon will receive rubber tree seedlings. Lastly, 3 knapsack sprayers and plastic crates will be given out as well.
A total of 390 farmers from 13 Farmer Associations will benefit the assistance.
