A groundbreaking ceremony for new public market was held on May 28, 2014 at Barangay Zone 3, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. It was led by Sta. Cruz mayor Atty. Joel Ray Lopez, Vice Mayor Alexis Almendras, Sangguniang Bayan members and the project contractor RG Salanatin Construction, Inc. represented by Engr. Remegio Salanatin, Jr.
“This project will really benefit the people of Sta. Cruz as it will boosts new opportunities for us in terms of economic enterprises,” Mayor Lopez said. Being one of the biggest investments of the local government in terms of infrastructure development, Mayor Lopez added that with the population of the town increasing, there is a need to put up a new public market. “We’ve been longing for this project and finally it will be implemented now.”
The project is a 100-million worth of investment by the LGU and 90 percent of its fund is being loaned from the Development Bank of the Philippines. It will be situated in an LGU-owned property in Barangay Zone 3 along the highway just beside the present Integrated Transport Terminal.
According to Engr. Salanatin, the project construction phase is expected to be completed within 18 months under the Design and Build scheme.
